The 2 years PG Degree provides a broader introduction to the field of Literature. It aims at educating students about some key factors about nation, colony, community, aesthetics, politics, and history with special reference to identity, gender and important literary trends.

The course also prepares the student for a career in Research and University teaching. The course gives them insight into various perspectives that will enable them to delve into various fields and also help them to prepare better for prestigious competitive exams like UPSC.

Course Objective

  • Students will understand the evolution of English language, its structure and function and develop language skills for communication and creative expression.
  • Students will be able to collect, understand process, evaluate and synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • Students will learn concepts about representative literary and cultural texts of different genres within historical, geographical and cultural contexts.
  • Students will attempt to write analytically in a variety of formats including different types of essays, research papers, reflective and critical writing.
  • Students will be able to understand critical and theoretical approaches to literature and apply them to the reading and analysis of literary and cultural texts.
  • Students will identify, analyze, interpret and describe the wide spectrum of critical ideas, values and themes that appear in literary and cultural texts and understand how they inform and impact the world they live in.

  4. Widening the students’ horizons by providing them with platforms like the theatre society, several clubs, annual events and a range of activities and competitions which help to cultivate a new behavioral aspect towards learning and understanding literary narratives.
  5. Internship opportunities offered during the course introduces the students to many aspects of employment.
  6. Job opportunities in the field of Content Writing, Editing, Proofreading, Teaching and Digital Marketing along with scope as a Content Analyst.
  7. Dedicated mentors are assigned to students and each student in every class is mentored fortnightly to understand their issues professionally and individually.
  8. A thorough research project is undertaken by each student under a mentor as per the interest of the student. Students dedicate research and write dissertation projects on various topics such as Women’s Literature, Post-Colonial Literature, Popular Literature, Diasporic Literature and Post-Modern Literature.

Eligibility

Graduate in any discipline with minimum 50% marks with English subject as mandate.

Lecture Halls and Seminar Rooms

Fully air-conditioned, spacious lecture halls and custom-built seminar rooms, equipped with latest audio-visual aids, provide an excellent infrastructural back-up for academic interaction among faculties and students.

Library

The Library is a veritable storehouse of information with ample text and reference books, national and international periodicals and journals. Well equipped and fully computerized library provides the latest research and reference material in print and audio-visual formats along with the facility to refer to e-journals, project reports, government publications etc. To cultivate values in students and enhance their personality, the library has an array of books on social issues and historical readings. The reading rooms provide a conducive environment for better learning and concentration.

Summer Internship

It is a matter of great pride that our students with their skills and grit are able to score a place in esteemed organizations for their internship. This not only gives them a glimpse of professional world but also equips them with relevant skill set and experience. They undergo summer internships for a period of two months in June and July for hands-on experience to fine-tune their skills and prepare them for applying knowledge in the real world. Students prepare Summer Internship Project reports under the able guidance of the faculties and take Viva as well.

ACTIVITIES

The transition from undergrad to postgrad can be equally challenging as that from school to undergrad. When new students enter an institution, they come with diverse thoughts, backgrounds, and preparations. They come into an unfamiliar environment and most of them have little knowledge of the academic world beyond graduation. Therefore, it becomes an important task to welcome new students to Higher Education and prepare them for their new roles. Conducting activities supplements the academic curriculum and helps the students in learning by doing. These activities help students to develop problem-solving, reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, and collaborative abilities.
