SONIC 2K25 | Rethinking Privacy in the AI and Big Data Era
The Department of Information Technology at JCC, in collaboration with CSI, Delhi
Chapter, successfully organized an insightful seminar, SONIC 2K25, at the prestigious Dr.
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Auditorium, Delhi Cantt, on 19th April 2025. This year’s theme,
Rethinking Privacy in AI and Big Data Era , drew keen participants from diverse academic
and professional backgrounds, all eager to explore the pressing issues of privacy and security
in the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence and big data.
The seminar began with a thoughtful introduction to the topic of AI and Privacy. The session
emphasized the dual role of artificial intelligence as both a tool for innovation and a potential
risk to personal and organizational security.
The first keynote speaker, ACP Manoj Kumar, delivered an enlightening presentation on AI
in Cyber Security. Drawing from his professional experience in law enforcement, he outlined
how AI is transforming cybercrime prevention. He highlighted how modern policing is
leveraging AI tools to identify digital threats, automate detection processes, and enhance
security infrastructure. His talk emphasized that staying ahead of cybercriminals in the AI era
requires both technology and constant awareness.
Following this, Mr. Gaurav Pahwa took the stage with his engaging discussion on Navigating
Privacy and Security in Generative AI. Mr. Pahwa explored the rising concerns around the
misuse of generative AI, which creates human-like content, images, and media from simple
prompts. He warned about the potential loss of privacy and security when personal data is
unknowingly fed into AI systems and stressed the importance of responsible AI development
and ethical user behaviour.
The seminar concluded with a highly practical and relatable session by Mr. Rahul Aggarwal,
who focused on How We Can Safeguard Ourselves from Cyber Threats. His talk emphasized
the importance of adopting simple yet effective digital hygiene practices such as using strong
and unique passwords, being alert to phishing attempts, securing personal devices, and
enabling two-factor authentication.
Additionally, Mr. Aggarwal introduced the audience to the concept of OSINT (Open Source
Intelligence) a legal and powerful method of gathering information from publicly available
sources such as social media, websites, government portals, and public records. He explained
how both ethical hackers and cybercriminals use OSINT to collect valuable data, and how
individuals can also use it to monitor their own digital footprint and identify potential risks.
His guidance encouraged everyone to be aware of the traces they leave online and to adopt
smart practices to safeguard personal and professional information in an increasingly
connected world.
In conclusion, SONIC 2K25 proved to be an eye-opening experience for all attendees,
offering a thoughtful perspective on the balance between technological progress and the
urgent need for data privacy and security. The seminar not only raised awareness about the
risks of careless digital habits but also encouraged a responsible approach to embracing
artificial intelligence in modern life. As we move forward, the lessons from this seminar will
guide us in shaping a more secure, ethical, and AI-aware future.
