ACADEMICS

Our faculty is drawn from different spheres of Media Industry so that the students can be kept informed of the latest trends and practices for future careers in the media world. The majority of our faculty members are top class professionals who combine years of practical experience with vast theoretical knowledge. The three year course in Journalism and Mass Communication provides a multi-dimensional study covering all aspects of media.

PRINT MEDIA

The course covers complete process form history of print media to production and writing for journalism, advertisements, concepts and brochures. Our students are exposed to all these aspects of writings which give them a talent to fit in any job relating to writing, editing, reporting and production.

 

BROADCAST MEDIA

JIMS has its own FM Community Radio 96.9 MHz & 90.4 MHz frequency supported by a well- equipped recording & editing studio. Students are given full academic knowledge of Radio, supported by technical and practical knowledge covering research, script writing, voice modulation, programme production, music sinking live broadcasts and phone in programmes. The JIMS Community Radio is run by our students. Each student has to make at least two to four programmes and broadcast them through radio.

 

AUDIO VISUAL MEDIA

TV & Cinema has taken over the Entertainment Industry covering English, Hindi and local languages, There are more than 100 channels and unlimited growth of Film Worlds. We at JIMS, have a state-of-the –art Studio with facilities of Camera, Editing, Music mixing and Lighting, fully supervised by faculty and technical assistants from industry to provide know how and practical training. The course covers the entire academics of equipment used and parameters for developing audio visual programmes along with shoots, both indoors and outdoors by individuals and groups. Our students participate as delegates in International Film Festival at Goa every year where they interact with World-renowned Directors, Film Makers and Actors. They also attend workshops on various aspects of film production and learn the techniques involved in it like research, script writing, story board development, camera & light operations and editing; covering pre and post production aspects of audio-visual.

 

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS

In the developed competitive economy Public Relations has become an essential part of all industries to communicate with their target audience, We strongly fell that the course is incomplete without providing a full study of Public Relations as a key aspect of communication. This covers interaction of internal and external public, crisis management, corporate publication, exhibitions, event organizing, social issues, working for social welfare organizations and corporate image building.

 

ADVERTISING

Advertising has become an integral part of creating awareness for reading any message to masses and target groups, This Industry has grown over the short span of two decades into Rs 2000 crore business, providing job and career opportunities in varied fields. Looking into this ever growing media of reaching masses, we cover in our curriculum a full study of advertising, exposing our students to types of advertisements, their scope and growth, indoor and outdoor methods of advertising. Our students are also exposed to client service management, the most important area of Advertising Industry.

  

MASTER PROFESIONAL SKILLS AND PROCEDURES USING CUTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

Students at JIMS gain hands on experience with industry-quality equipment in digital editing suites, a television studio, a radio studio plus numerous computer labs. JIMS offers state-of-art facilities to teach professional practices so one can land at an entry level position, armed with an array of finely honed skills. The teaching method is interactive which provides better understanding and growth of holistic personality.

 

LEARN THROUGH A MIX OF THEORY AND HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE

Classes range from production-oriented, where students learn to script, direct, shoot and edit videos shot on location. The theoretical side makes the students learn the historical and critical context of mass communication keeping in mind our cultural, economic and technological factors.

 

MENTORING

The faculty members act as mentors to the group of students and work in close interaction with students. This gives the student confidence to share their academic problems and also their personal issues. As mentors both in and out of the classroom, the faculty contributes a wealth of experience from a variety of professional backgrounds including radio, television, public relations, journalism, advertising, publishing, theater and film.

 

GUEST LECTURES

We organize regular guest lectures and workshops on practical aspects for the benefit of the students. Guest lectures are organized on required basis throughout the course curriculum for which leading personalities are invited from the field of Journalism, Television, Radio, Cinematography, Videography, etc. To innovate our present students and expose them to the job prospects, alumni lectures are also organized on a regular basis.

 

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

Visits to Media Houses, Newspaper Press, Parliament House, Doordarshan, All India Radio and Film Studios are frequently organized to expose the students to the real life situations. Such visits/ activities provide them with an opportunity to interact with various media professionals and get acquainted with the latest practices being followed in the Industry.

 

CAREER MANAGEMENT CELL

At JIMS career assistance is provided to all the students and bring out their talent and interest in varied fields of media by getting involved in internship programme.

Students interests in different fields of media are assessed and special trainings are provided in their field of interest. This gives them self-satisfaction and confidence when they enter the Industry.
